Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Officers report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then found multiple other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests suggest the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; authorities are currently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were working "to resolve the case" and have asked to the public for details.
A senior representative said the attack made him speechless and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on social media, mentioning the killing of nine people by a gunman focusing on residents of migrant background in February 2020.
